Gamphani Lungu scored for Orlando Pirates as the South African champions defeated Sekhukhune United 3-0 to reach the MTN8 final for a record fifth consecutive season.
The Chipolopolo attacker found the net six minutes before half-time, doubling Pirates’ advantage at Orlando Amstel Arena.
Yanela Mbuthuma created the opportunity after collecting a pass from Oswin Appollis. He calmly released Lungu, who worked himself into a shooting position before finishing to give Pirates firm control of the semi-final.
Thapelo Mokobodi had opened the scoring in the 36th minute, while Kamogelo Sebelebele completed the victory late in the second half.
Pirates advanced 4-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg 1-0.
Gamphani Lungu continues impressive Pirates start
Lungu’s influence since joining Orlando Pirates is becoming difficult to overlook. He scored a dramatic extra-time winner against Durban City in the MTN8 quarter-finals and later opened the scoring in a league victory over Chippa United.
He was also involved in the winning goal during the first leg against Sekhukhune.
His latest performance adds another important contribution to an excellent opening period at one of Southern Africa’s biggest clubs.
What stands out is not only the number of goals, but their timing. Lungu has repeatedly delivered when Pirates needed someone to break open a difficult match.
The 27-year-old played 84 minutes before being substituted and will now have an opportunity to compete for his first major trophy with the Soweto giants.
For Zambia, his form arrives at an important time as competition for places intensifies ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
