Green Buffaloes Women have once again proven their dominance in Zambian women’s football, edging ZESCO Ndola Girls in a thrilling 3–2 contest to clinch the Carling Black Label Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield for the second consecutive year.
The defending champions wasted no time stamping their authority. In just the 6th minute, Evarine Susan Katongo finished off a swift attacking move from the Nyanta Girls to open the scoring. Six minutes later, Hellen Chanda doubled the lead, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot past goalkeeper Annie Namonje.
But ZESCO Ndola Girls weren’t going to roll over. In the 17th minute, Penelope Mulubwa reduced the deficit with a composed finish after being set up by Enelesi Phiri. The game tightened up, but Buffaloes carried their 2–1 lead into the break despite ZESCO growing in confidence.
The second half brought more drama. In the 57th minute, Hellen Chanda rose above the defence to nod home her second goal, restoring Buffaloes’ advantage after Phiri had equalised for ZESCO just before halftime.
Both sides pushed for more goals, with substitutions bringing fresh energy, but Buffaloes held firm through five tense minutes of added time.
This victory not only gives Green Buffaloes their first silverware of 2025 but also sends a statement to the rest of the league — the champions are not slowing down. With sharp finishing, tactical discipline, and a proven winning mentality, they’ve shown they remain the team to beat in Zambian women’s football.
