ZESCO United FC kicked off the 2025/26 season in style, defeating Power Dynamos 2-0 in the 2025 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield final.
The match, played at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola, started as a tense, end-to-end contest, with both sides battling for control in the first half. Power Dynamos held their shape well but were undone in the 35th minute when David Simukonda weaved past defenders in the box before rifling a powerful shot past Lawrence Mulenga for the opener.
Power pushed for an equaliser but ZESCO’s disciplined defence and quick transitions kept them at bay. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Pascal Phiri sealed the win, latching onto Alex Ngonga’s perfectly weighted pass before rounding Mulenga and slotting home to make it 2-0.
The victory hands ZESCO United early bragging rights and sets the tone for what could be a fierce campaign in the Zambia super league.
