Glory Maweta Chilenga, born on August 3, 2003, is a star in the world of women’s football. This young Zambian footballer is known for her intelligence, flair, skill, and her remarkable ability to score extraordinary goals.

Maweta’s football journey began in 2011 when she joined Sport In Action (SIA) based at Munali Grounds in Lusaka. She spent five years with the team before moving to Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) and joining Football Chance Foundation Girls in 2016, where she continued to hone her skills.

In May 2019, she joined Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA), coached by Kaluba Kangwa, who is also the Zambia U-17 Women’s national team coach. It was a significant year for her as she was selected to represent Zambia in the Under-20 and Under-17 National Teams at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championships in South Africa and Mauritius.

Her talent was on full display as the Under-20 team finished as runners-up, earning a Silver medal.

Coming from a sporting family, Maweta drew inspiration from her dad, Mr. Don Chilenga, who had a deep love for football. Although her father later switched to Karate, Maweta’s passion for football only grew.

She has been excellent and consistent in her performances, making her mark with BUSA Queens and earning a place on the Zambia Under-20 team.

Maweta’s impressive performances earned her a call-up to the national team. She made her debut in a friendly match against Botswana Women’s National Team, displaying her prowess as a midfielder.

Her journey continued through the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Tournament in Morocco.

Nicknamed “Gaucho” after the Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, Maweta’s style of play and ball control reflect the flair of the great player. Her favorite player in the local league is Kabwe Warriors striker, Jimmy Ndhlovu, admired for his exceptional style of play and goal-scoring ability.
