Patson Daka was crowned CAF Youth Player of the Year at the CAF Awards Gala 2017 in Accra Ghana. The Zambia and Salzburg 19 year old player received the award ahead of Krepin Diatta of Senegal and Salam Giddou of Mali.  Patson takes the 2017 year's ownership from Nigeria's and Arsenal young star and forward Alex Chuka Iwobi who won the CAF Youth Player of the Year for 2016. Prior years 2014 and 2015 saw other two Nigerian youth players Asisat Oshoala and Victor Osimhen  scoop the award. Patson makes it the only player to be awarded from Zambia and outside Nigeria. Zambia recorded its first victory over Guinea as Patson Daka shared the tournament's first goal. The opening game of the 2017 Total Africa Cup of nation under 20 saw the host country Zambia to a victory over Guinea.
