Maestro United Zambia Football Club (MUZA FC) is a Zambian football club based in Mazabuka, Southern Province. The club, popularly known as The Elegant Dynamites, competes in the Zambia Super League and has developed into one of the country’s notable emerging football sides.
MUZA was founded in 2007 as Manchester United Zambia Academy Football Club, a name from which the familiar abbreviation MUZA originated. The club was later renamed Maestro United Zambia Academy Football Club in 2019.
Rise to the Zambia Super League
MUZA first reached Zambia’s top flight in 2019, competing during the transitional league season. Their first spell in the Super League was short, with the club subsequently returning to the lower division.
The Elegant Dynamites fought their way back and secured another promotion to the Zambia Super League for the 2022/23 season. This time, MUZA did far more than simply survive.
They emerged as one of the surprise packages of the campaign and eventually finished second in the 2022/23 Zambia Super League, securing qualification for continental football.
Historic 2023 ABSA Cup Run
The 2023 ABSA Cup provided another major milestone in MUZA’s rise.
On 12 March 2023, MUZA defeated defending league champions Red Arrows 2–0 in the quarter-finals to reach the semi-finals for the first time.
They continued their impressive run by beating Trident FC 1–0 in the semi-final, booking a place in their first ABSA Cup final. MUZA eventually finished runners-up after losing 2–0 to Forest Rangers in the final.
MUZA in CAF Competition
Their second-place league finish earned MUZA qualification for the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, marking the club’s first appearance in African club competition.
MUZA began their continental journey against Cano Sport of Equatorial Guinea, progressing from the preliminary round with a 4–1 aggregate victory.
The achievement represented a remarkable rise for a club that had only made its top-flight debut a few years earlier.
