ZESCO United coach Zlatako Krmpotic recorded his first competitive win against Burundian side Le Messager on Friday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the Caf Confederations first round match.
Jackson Mwanza gave home side the lead in 32nd minute thanks to the clever pass from John Chingandu. United could have gone into the break with 4 goals up had it not been for Idris Ilunga Mbombo and Jesse Were being wasteful at goal.
Idriss Mbombo made it 2-0 in 64th minute but his goal was disallowed by assistant referee. Zesco’s performance showed sluggishness in the waterlogged pitch.
United increased the momentum in second half and it paid off in 76th minute when Kondwani Mtonga scored from a very close range to make it 2-0 for the host.
Zesco’s match against Le Messager saw new signing Davy Daka making his first competitive appearance for electricity sponsored side.
Zesco will travel to Burundi in a week’s time for the second leg slated for March 18 in Burundi.
