The 2021-2022 Zambia super league season will kick start this afternoon as defending Champions Zesco United clash with Barclays cup holders Lusaka Dynamoes in the Charity Shield. Samuel ZOOM Ndhlovu Charity Shield is Zambia’s football season curtain raiser.
Both Numba Mumamba and Wedson Nyirenda will use the match to test the readiness of their squads following a lengthy preason and Zedsoccer takes you down the two players to look for as the epic clash unfolds at Woodlands stadium in Lusaka.
LUNGU EDWARD ( Zesco United)
The lanky Zesco United winger was a menace and thorn in the flesh of defenders last season when he featured for relegated Kitwe United. twinkle feeted , sleaky and gifted with a magical first touch, Lungu was an absolute revelation last season and it will be interesting to note how he picks the new challenge at Zesco United. In a team which Numba Mumamba will use to experiement his new aquisition and patch up the openings left by the transfer window and National duty, Lungu is likely to start alongside Mulenga and Jesse Were in a tripod attack.
While is has all it takes to light up the match and steal the show with his trickery, He will need adaptability and firm resolve and hope that better days are ahead of him.
MAKABANISO MAKENGE ( Lusaka Dynamoes)
An aggressive and fierce competitor who rarely tracks back-foot. He runs direct in the way of an incoming striker then give way or risk the bones which feed you.
Take nothing away from Adrian Chama and Clement Mwape, Magenge had a season for the book makers last season and he this afternoon comes head-on against a front line he stopped to win the Barclays cup last season.
Quick and agile, Makenge is a hard tackling and brutal shoulder ripping monster who defends his lines with his heart on his sleeves. He is a beast in both aerial and ground duels while his physical aggression in disposessing has always made him a living hell for strikers in his territory.
He comes against the most bombading attack in the league and it willbe criminal not to watch it.
