Wins for Rangers, Wanderers, and Eagles; The 2025/26 MTN Super League kicked off on August 16th with six fixtures on opening day. While three teams picked up important wins, the low goal return has already raised eyebrows about finishing quality across the league.
Nchanga Rangers 2-0 Mutondo Stars – Rangers started on the front foot, with Christopher Ikaka scoring inside the first minute before Jacob Kaunda sealed the result deep into stoppage time.
Mines United 1-2 Mufulira Wanderers – It was a tale of quick responses in this encounter. Luka Nguni gave Mines the lead on the stroke of halftime, but the “Mighty” hit back immediately through Patson Kwataine in the 46th and Owen Mwamba in the 68th minute to claim an away win.
Napsa Stars 0-2 Green Eagles – A rough day at the office for Napsa, who fell behind to George Chaloba’s opener in the 22nd minute before Collins Sikombe doubled the visitors’ lead just before the break.
Elsewhere, the remaining three matches all ended goalless: ZESCO United vs Konkola Blades, FC MUZA vs Zanaco, and Kansanshi Dynamos vs Kabwe Warriors.
In total, just 9 goals were scored in six matches, highlighting a recurring concern in Zambian football—the lack of sharp, reliable strikers to finish off chances. While it’s still early days, coaches will be keen to see more cutting edge in front of goal as the season unfolds.
