Martin Phiri brace help Zanaco edge out Armed Forces

Goals from former Power Dynamos striker Martin Phiri and captain Ziyo Tembo helped Sensational Zanaco thump Gambia Armed Forces 3-0 on Saturday in the 2018 Total Caf Champions League preliminary first round match at Nkoloma Stadium.

Zanaco were the first to score through their captain Ziyo Tembo who headed in a corner taken by Tafadzwa Rusike on 35th minute.

Minutes late Striker Phiri headed home a left wing cross taken by Charles Zulu to double the lead before scoring his second goal of the match in stoppage time after an interchange of passes with Rusike and Zulu.

The bankers are expected to travel to Gambia for the second leg tie to be played on the weekend of 16th and 19th February.

Elsewhere, Zambia’s Defending Champions Zesco United toiled to a 0-0 draw with Zanzibar’s JKU.

The Ndola giants will now have to finish off the match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium by beating JKU when the two clash in a weeks time.
