Zambia Bow Out of Futsal: The Zambia Futsal National Team wrapped up their campaign at the Continental Futsal Championship 2025 with a spirited performance but ultimately fell 3-2 to Australia in a tightly contested Group B finale at the Central Stadium Gym in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
James Mwila was Zambia’s standout on the day, bagging a classy brace to keep the tie alive until the final whistle. His sharp movement and finishing gave the Aussies something to think about, but it wasn’t enough to flip the scoreboard.
Zambia ends their group journey without a win, following earlier results — a 4-0 loss to Belarus and a thrilling 5-4 showdown against Saudi Arabia. Despite the outcomes, this tournament has been a story of progress over points. Game by game, Zambia’s composure and attacking chemistry grew, with players like Royd Chishala and Wiseman Phiri making their mark alongside Mwila.
Group B proved to be a minefield — packed with sharp teams like Saudi Arabia, Belarus, and Australia. With only the top two moving to the semis, margins were razor-thin.
For Zambia, this wasn’t just a tournament — it was a benchmark. A signal that the futsal project is taking shape. With better structure, more domestic competition, and continued exposure at this level, don’t be surprised if Zambia becomes a serious five-a-side force in the next few years.
For now, they return home without a win, but with heads held high and eyes on the future.
